Unbelievably Moist Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
Filled with semi-sweet chocolate chips and ripe bananas, this bread will become an essential bake in your kitchen!

I fell in love with banana bread the first time I ate it. I don’t remember when or who made it, but it had my heart. Then I discovered you could put chocolate chips in it. I didn’t know it could get better! And even after that, someone served me a heated slice of banana bread with butter melted on it. I thought, this must be what heaven tastes like. That might be a bit of an exaggeration, but the deliciousness that this bread is, is not. We didn’t grow up with a microwave in our household, and I seriously considered getting one just to have the ease of warmed banana bread with butter. All jokes aside, I set out to perfect a banana bread recipe. It took a few tries, as most good things do, but I think you’ll find that this recipe ends in success!
I think a good banana bread is a staple in every kitchen. You can add nuts and cinnamon, chocolate chips or zucchini. But ultimately, a basic banana bread always leaves people satisfied. I enjoy it for its simplicity. I almost always have the ingredients on hand, especially bananas that become overripe, and its so easy to pull together. You can have it done in about an hour and eat it for breakfast or dessert. Leave it at home or take to a friends house. Its the ultimate dessert bread!
A delicious banana bread is moist but still holds together, while the crust is a caramel colored brown and the bread is packed full of banana flavor. For this recipe, you have the option to sprinkle chocolate chips on top. This is strictly for presentation. Toss all the chocolate chips in the batter if you want to skip a step!
While I’m sure I could make this recipe healthier, omitting the chocolate chips and refined sugar, I don’t want to and I think we all deserve a chocolatey banana treat every once in a while! There is just something great about a classic banana bread. I even love to slice it warm and enjoy it with a pat of butter melted on top! Everything in moderation right? FAQs
Is chocolate chip banana bread healthy?
It can be, yes. I think this bread should be eaten in moderation, since it includes chocolate chips and refined sugar. But you could modify it to use only the banana’s sweetness which would make it healthier.
How ripe do my bananas need to be?
Ripe. You don’t want to be using bananas that are still green or just turned yellow. Its better to use bananas that have brown spots on them or have turned mostly brown. They are sweeter and lend more moisture to the bread.
What are the best chocolate chips to use?
I prefer to bake with semi-sweet chocolate chips. They aren’t overly sweet or overly bitter. Plus they hold up well in baking.
